Jay & Julie Adoption Profile: Paul & Maria

Paul

Paul is the oldest of three children.   He’s a bit on the quiet side, but is outgoing and has an easy nature about him.  He’s a tall guy with blonde hair and blue eyes.  Paul was born in West Virginia and grew up in Virginia.  After high school, he joined the US Army as a helicopter mechanic.  Since childhood, Paul has had a fascination with flying.  He worked hard to become a pilot. His job currently takes him on international trips flying 747’s. But, he still enjoys renting small airplanes on the weekend for relaxation.  Paul learned at an early age how to work with his hands and is very good at building and repairing.  He has a workshop in the basement, where he likes to do projects in his free time, but his passion is bicycling. He even has one that folds up so he can take it with him when he flies.  Paul is also an avid fisherman.  He’s taught Maria how to fish and most recently began teaching his son. Other likes include spicy foods, hiking, kayaking, playing cribbage, and most important of all, being a husband and father.

Maria

Maria is the youngest of four children.  With three older brothers, she tends to be quiet and shy.  She has dark brown hair and eyes.  Maria was born in Cincinnati, but spent her youth in Yorktown, VA, the Panama Canal Zone and Cornwall, NY, where she graduated from high school.  After, which she attended Mt. St. Mary College and got her degree in Chemistry.  Eventually, she made it back to Cincinnati, where most of her extended family reside, her parents soon followed.  Maria and her mom are very close.  You could say they’re “bestest buddies.”   Maria enjoys making crafts, including crocheting and cross-stitching.  Maria is an excellent cook and has recently taken up the challenge of cake decorating.  Paul’s niece even asked her to make her the wedding cake.  Other likes are Italian foods, gardening, puzzles, and thanks to Paul, she now likes to fish. Maria loves her job of being a stay at home mom.

Our Family:

We adopted our son, Eric, in 2007. He was born with multiple health issues, but after many trips to Children’s Medical Center, he has grown into an active little boy that enjoys life to the fullest.  He loves cars and being outside with daddy.   Eric caught his first fish, on a recent trip to Michigan.  As a family we like to travel, enjoy seasonal outings, including cutting down the annual Christmas tree, and dining out.

Paul is Baptist while Maria is Catholic.  We have decided to raise our children Catholic, but will get the opportunity experience of what Paul’s church has to offer.  Eric attended Vacation Bible School there this year, which he loved.

Our extended families are very supportive of our choice to adopt and can’t wait for another addition to the family. Maria’s parents live close by and are very eager to babysit.  We visit Paul’s family in Virginia as often as we can.

Our Home:

We live in a modest two story house at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet suburban neighborhood. There are two parks within walking distance and both have great playgrounds. Our home has a nice lot with a play set Paul built from scratch for Eric’s birthday. The local school district has been rated as “Excellent”.  There are two ponds nearby that are good for fishing. The low-traffic roads allow for many activities such as riding bikes and sidewalks for an evening stroll where we meet other families taking time to enjoy the sights and sounds God has provided.
