14th Annual Caring Matters Regional Health Conference
The Caregiver Assistance Network held its 14th Annual Caring Matters Regional Health Conference on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Blue Ash. Over 200 caregivers, professionals and volunteers attended the event, which was designed to provide information and health care tips for nurses, social workers, counselors, activity professionals, clergy, and family/volunteer caregivers. Exhibitors included nursing homes, hospice centers, hospitals, and various other social service agencies with a focus on health care for older adults.

Senior Corps Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio is held its annual Senior Corps Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Wednesday, September 22 in the undercroft at St. Peter-In-Chains Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati. Over 300 senior citizen volunteers from the Senior Corps attended the recognition program. Rob Williams, co-host of the FOX19 Morning Show, served as emcee for the event this year. Milton Dohoney Jr., City Manager for the City of Cincinnati, was the keynote speaker with entertainment from the Dunham Choraliers. Photos of the luncheon are available here.
2010 CCSWO Golf Outing a big success!
The 2010 Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio Third Annual Golf Classic was held on Monday, September 20 at the Grand Oak Golf Club.
A total of 52 golfers participated in the event this year, which raised almost $6,000 for the programs and services provided by Catholic Charities. The weather was a beautiful day weather-wise and it was a fun day of golf for everyone involved in the event. The winning teams in the event included:
First Place: The team of Gene Johnson, Brian Doyle, Rick Salerno and Joe Eson; Second Place: The team comprised of Tim Tiernan, Eric Determan, Chris Gramke and Cara Fasig; Third Place went to the team of Royce Winters, Michael Lachey, Dion Wells and Ron Twitty. The prestigious Last Place Award went to the foursome of Chas Eddingfield, Joe Jones, Sean Sweeney, and Fr. Jason Bedel.
Individual contest winners include: Mark Schratz (Longest Drive), Chris Gramke and Debbie Bigner (Closest to the Pin); and Tim Taney (Longest Putt).
ProSource was the Tournament Sponsor for 2010. Mutual of America and Catholic Healthcare Partners were the Corporate Sponsors for the event this year. Ryan Remodeling, Miami Corporation and Tri-State Concrete Sawing were Patron Sponsors this year.
Thanks to all the local companies who provided hole sponsorships and/or donations in support of the event. Catholic Charities raffling off a chance to see UC Bearcats Football in style
Cincinnati – Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio has teamed up with UC Bearcats Football to offer an exciting fundraising opportunity to football fans across the region.
Catholic Charities is raffling off a Private Suite for the Saturday, November 20, 2010 Big East Football Game between the University of Cincinnati at Rutgers University at Nippert Stadium. The Grand Prize winner receives use of the suite, 10 guest passes, two parking passes, food and beverages. Only 1000 tickets will be sold for the raffle at a cost of $50 per ticket.
“We are grateful to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats for the chance to help raise money to support the agency through this endeavor,” said Kathleen Donnellan, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio. “This is something that Bearcat football fans can enjoy while supporting the programs and services we provide throughout the community.”
A total of 10 Bearcat Football ticket prizes to the Rutgers game are up for grabs in the raffle. Second prize gives two lucky fans a chance to watch the game from the Bearcats sideline and join the captains on the field for the coin toss as well as a parking pass to the game.
Third prize includes four (4) tickets to the game, a parking pass, and the opportunity to participate in the Catholic Charities Halftime Contest on the field, where the lucky winner will have three chances to throw a football into a net to win a special prize. Fourth prize includes four (4) tickets to the game plus a $50 gift card to Montgomery Inn. Prizes five through 10 each are two (2) tickets to the game plus a $10 gift card to Skyline Chile for the winners.
“With only 1000 tickets being sold and the Bearcats primed for a great season, we expect the tickets to sell fast.,” said Chris Gramke, Director of Development and Marketing for Catholic Charities. “This is something we have wanted to try as far as fundraising goes, and we are hoping that the community sees it as a great way to support the agency while having a chance to see a UC football game in style.”
The drawing for the raffle winners will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010. Tickets can be purchased on the CCSWO web site at www.catholiccharitiesswo.org or by contacting Chris Gramke at (513) 241-7745 extension 2527.

11th Annual Su Casa Banquet a big success
The 11th Annual Su Casa Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 20 at the Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University. Over 350 people attended the event, which is the major fundraiser for Su Casa Hispanic Center. This year’s event featured an expanded silent auction highlighting the many cultural events and happenings that are a part of the Greater Cincinnati region. Musicians and dancers provided the entertainment for the attendees this year.
The highlight of the evening is the awards ceremony. Su Casa Hispanic Center is presenting four awards to individuals and agencies that have made a significant contribution to the Greater Cincinnati Hispanic and Latino communities. Among the winners is Fr. William Jansen, director of the Hispanic Ministries of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, who is receiving the prestigious Cesar Chavez Award. P&G is receiving the award for Corporate Service to Su Casa.

Bishop Eduardo Carmona Ortega, bishop of the diocese of Puerto Escondido in Mexico, served as the keynote speaker for the event. All proceeds benefit the educational programs and services of Su Casa Hispanic Center.
Catholic Charities SouthWestern Ohio sponsors the region’s Senior Companion Program. This free program provides area senior citizens with the opportunity to build relationships with other seniors for such things as help with light meals, companionship, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, and some light travel needs.

This is made possible by grants funded by the Corporation for National Community Services and the Ohio Department of Aging.
