PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Su Casa a program of Catholic Charities SouthWestern Ohio provides individual and family services through the following programs:

Informational and Referral: This program provides referrals and assist individuals to obtain resources that will improve their quality of life.

Health Promotion: This program provides trainings, organizes events and provides counseling services to enhance and improve the wellbeing of our community.

Literacy Education: This program provides classes to assist individuals to learn and/or improve their English skills. It also provides classes to individuals who wish to complete their formal education in Spanish.

Informational and Referral Program

Social Services

• Assists individuals finding a health care provider for themselves and their families
• Provides workshops regarding Title VI, and their rights to services and benefits.
• Refer individual to community resources
• Instruct individuals on how to use bus transportation
• Assists individuals in obtaining assistance such as: WIC, Medicare or Medicaid, food stamps, etc.
• Assist individuals filing for financial assistance (hospitals)

Employment

• Provides monthly or bimonthly job fairs
• Provides training to job seekers on how to do well in interviews, how to write their resume, expectation they will have at any job, etc.
• Provides consulting services to employers who have work related problems with their Hispanic employees
• Assist individuals finding employment

Housing

• Provides quarterly workshops regarding housing issues: discrimination, eviction, policies when buying or renting a house or an apartment, etc.
• Brings speakers from HOME and Real State agencies to provide workshop and to answer most frequent questions.

Legal & Immigration

• Provides forums where volunteer Spanish speaking lawyers answer questions from the community
• Invites counsuls or ambassadors from LA countries to assist the Hispanic community to obtain documentation from their native country.
• Provides workshops on "Taxes"
• Educates the Hispanic community on their legal rights
• Educates the Hispanic community on "immigration raids"
• Assist individuals with legal issues (done by volunteer lawyers)

Health Promotion Program

Health Education

• Provides workshops in health topics that have been identified as an issue in our community (childhood obesity, asthma, TB, domestic violence. Depression, alcoholism, unhealthy relationships, teen pregnancy, low weight births, etc)
• Develop health programs to address main health issues
• Publishes health articles in the Spanish Journal and in other Hispanic magazines or newspapers.
• Discusses health topics in Hispanic local stations

Literacy Education Program

Provides the following classes:

• ESL classes: Beginning, intermediate and advance English
• Conversational English
• GED classes in Spanish and English
• Computer classes: Microsoft office, web search and electronic mail.
• TOFL preparation (English exam that is required for non English speakers to attend college)
• Tutoring program (for school age kids)

How are we going to sustain our program?

Through grants, donations, fee for services.
